yard art peace

Time may pass though heart makes no fuss, for love is a universal treasure trove of boundlessness.

Some words about self, and why it is essential to be in the present nowness.

Introvert extrovert. Joy when I am doing what I love. Sorrow when caught up in a past that I can’t adjust. I love the ocean, and the waves. I love to glide on water with the wind. I am at heart a caring and loving human. Challenged at times by a mind that plays ticks on me. Trying to force it away only aggravates things. I sometimes wonder whether it’s been worth the effort, so many things I have no control over. What is it I want to control, never mind, it’s a futile. I have made many things, I have lost just as many. Sometimes I like to retreat inwards, to find the the light, and clean the temple. I am not one who begs to be at the center of attention. I would rather just paint, plant gardens, and bake things. When I make art I am at my most vulnerable, open to energies, and sensitive to the environment. At the same time art is a place where I feel empowered and free, guided by inner spirit, although restless on occasion. I recently lost a best friend, one who I could in trust with pretty much anything. Now I find myself again in solitude, working on freeing myself from the shackles of my own mind. Slowly I make my way, a sprout in the garden, not knowing whats next, perhaps that’s the root cause of most suffering. Liberation grows from a soil made from years of convincing myself I am not good enough. As those ideas and stories decompose, they give the plants nourishment so they can grow. All will pass, life is indeed what you make it. I have no regrets, no things I would change; it’s been pretty freaking magical, many blessings and yes some hard lessons gained. Though the darkness isn’t far away, no mind, no mind. Send love to your sisters and brothers, even if it’s just a thought. Forgive thy enemies, forgive the friends. This perhaps is our greatest challenge, I know it is for me.

And now some minimotion yard art action…

Before I forget! I have launched my new website hältsart.com (click here to visit)  below is a kimono style garment with my painting SLO beautifully printed on it. This is chiffon fabric, nice and flowy, and see through. These garments are hand made in Montreal and well they are something to behold and very unique art wearables. I will be working on new designs throughout the summer, and running designs for short periods of time to keep them extra special. There’s been a lot of love put into each design and I look forward to sharing developments with you, Mahalo hälts ❤️

moonlit night

Before my bed there is the moonlight.

It lies there on the ground, looking like frost.

Lifting my head, I gaze at themoon bright;

Lowering my head, in homesickness, I am lost.v

Now a new minimotion called ‘homesickness on a moonlit night’ referencing Li Bai’s poem at the beginning of this post.

I have been steadily falling out of the blogosphere which I do humbly apologise for. The words have been going into proposal writing and more proposal writing. This is a good thing. I want to take my art to new places and bring new ideas to life. I tend to also focus on producing work during the winter season, however this year has been a little different. Recently in the last couple months, I made a few new acquisitions to allow me grow my art business. I have not been giving as much attention to the business side as I would like. It has been a time of learning new ways to sell my art and art merchandise that I can put my stamp of approval on. Over the last decade I have tried various outlets to get my art out there, with some success and a lot of fails. However not one to quit, due to a stubborn nature, I have managed to learn a thing or three, and voila! It looks as though I am on a bit of a roll. There is some exciting things coming down the pipe; art shows, installations, and live art. I am planning an art pop shop and happening for the month of April in Calgary. The wheels are in motion and things are looking pretty good if I may say so myself. So with renewed vigour and a sense of inner happiness I will keep you very much in the loop! For now some images of past to present and a minomotion.

memory

I have been a little MIA lately, I suppose I have lots going on in my life. And really…..who doesn’t. So now that we’ve got that out of the way, lets get on with it. The last couple months have flown by. Ups, downs, sideways, upside down, around, twisted, sadness, happiness, and loneliness. Love came, love went, that empty feeling, don’t back down, ride the ebbs and flows that life brings. Those things that build character, and things that make me mad. A longing for something I have not found, I guess I’ll keep my nose the ground. The search continues, new dreams mapped out. Gone are some happy days that made sense at the time. Some came, some went, some never to be heard from again. Thoughts inwards, inner spirit, the quest for the truth. Moments of madness and chaos, and swarms of blue. Flowers so delicate and yet so distant as winter squeezes alllife from their memory. Wandering the city streets with no one in particular to meet. A fresh hot cup of coffee to warm the veins giving credence to the old adage,

Even bad coffee is better than no coffee at all.

-David Lynch

And now some halts art history…

‘creator’ a community spirit mural produced by halts and painted in 2016.

In 2004, I made a small series of paintings. It is the point in my life I decided to paint, or perhaps you could day painting serendipitously came into my life. I remember the first moment I touched a brush, I knew this is what I wanted to do, and never I never looked back.

let’s just dive right in shall we.

‘courtesy inner spirit’ a hälts watercolour WIP

Nothing is what it appears to be. This perhaps is the mystery of life. Some days it would appear that everything clicks, paint flows nicely, brushes do what they are supposed to do, and coffee is delicious with milk and honey. Other days it is as if the polarity of earth switched 180. Gravity seems heavier, things that are simple tasks turn into arduous treks up a mountain during a winter storm. Still it is the layers that I must go through to get to that place where I am free to create and see the bigger picture. This is not via talent, it is through hard work. I get up, I drink water, I eat, I draw, I write, I work. It seems like such a simple thing doesn’t it? Well I am not so sure about that, all those things I listed are some precious gifts that allow me to do the things love to do. I think we live in a society that has lost sight of where we even get simple things like water, coffee, it’s just expected and even demanded, “where’s my latte!?”….but I digress. So where’s wa Si oh right, the nature of my work is not the normal 9-5 day office shuffle, it’s much different than that. It starts as soon as I awake, and it goes until I am exhausted, however still mentally driven. This is something I have had to work on, as sleep is a good thing. A few things I have tried are yoga, meditation and walking. All three are great and I can clear my mind if only temporarily. I have always wanted someone to design a food pill, so I could just keep going, and then I learned the art of cooking and realized that is just plain crazy talk.  I now make time to cook and bake and eat. They too can be artful, and I art the living shit out of them. Now I do know what it’s like to work on art and not take care of myself, it is the quintessential a double edged sword. One blade is the creative magic. This occurs during what I call marathon paint sesshins, when I go a day or more straight art, minimal breaks and minimal sleep. However, and yes there’s always a down side withth upside, the journey is a relatively difficult and completely taxing on the mind and body, however I will not say spirit. And this is am important point, because in my case when the physical and the mental breakdown, my spirit has never disappeared. It has grown weary however quite capable of carrying the load. I have faltered a few times, has been in the area of relationships with partners, which is a whole other blog, probably not even worth the time, let’s say it’s also a mystery and I am working on the case. When my spirit wanes I know it’s time to go to the ocean, or the mountains, or spend time in nature. Life has been an interesting experience for me, I have no shortage of memories,  and I am no stranger to lovers, oh those moments of bliss. These are distractions.

moose sign

I went to the mountains recently for some film work, my other passion, and found myself amidst the wild ones. In this case a juvenile moose presumably wondering what we were doing in his home. I try to imagine this animal watching us, observing the director and the DOP, wondering why the AD is always calling action and cut, and why these humans are moving around lights and bounces. The mountain air is always fresh unless of course there is forest fires, thankfully this time of year most of the fires have gone out. I am fortunate to work in this space fairly regularly either on a mountain top or in its valleys. I have come to realize the importance of stepping outside the studio so as to get some fresh perspective. Whether it is for work or pleasure being in the mountains raises my stoke and gives me strength. I also learn to appreciate life more, and not take any of it for granted, it is truly a gift to be here. Slowly and patiently, I am getting my magnificence back, each breath, each step, that much closer. There is beauty everywhere, you just have to look for it, and when you find it a lightness and a sense of belonging prevails.

Presently, I am back in the studio and thinking of an animal painting to make. I am torn between a bear and a moose, and I have tiger on the mind, funny enough. Perhaps all three in one… at any rate running into a moose was a good sign. So now please enjoy my images and minimotion, sharing some of the magic of the good ol Rocky Mountains.

Spirit of the Universe

The spirit of the universe responds to action -wrote this in my notebook sorry I don’t have a source nonetheless truer words have never been written.

It has been full on lately in the studio working on various recycled cardboard WIPs and keeping the dream alive. I live in a place where art is one of those things treated as a luxury item so making art that is meant to elate and spark thought, feeling and promite healing seems like an endless uphill climb! This is why it is important to keep focus on the work and to not let these doubts and thoughts threaten the mission. I decided many years ago to develop my art and with the intention of doing it for the rest of my life, and this has not changed to this day. Sure I have had my fair share of setbacks and sometimes the valleys have been deep. I have managed to always find the jewel of wisdom in each and every one of my experiences, even if it takes longer than I would like, this has been vital in keeping my art positive, and sticking to my intentions of bringing wellness, good vibes and peace into this world.

I make all my own stencils from drawing to cutting out the stencils by hand, this gives them my uniqueness and style that would otherwise be lost if I just copied a photograph, that is why I get paid the big bucks! (reference here to Dace Chappelle, who apparently doesn’t like bloggers lol)

💛❤️💚 and lastly an exciting development is this helmet which I painted for Canadian Olympic skeleton athlete hopeful Mirela Rahneva, my helmet art will be featured in publications across Canada and on CBC, I am very honoured and stoked to be a part of this wonderful story, more on that as things develop!
