Sometimes we confuse the moon with the finger pointing at it – Eastern wisdom

Life is a journey. There are some thinkers who believe they can break it down into a simple model, we travel from point a to b, in an effort to continue moving forward from what can be perceived as an unbearable present and a desirable future. This is rather simplistic notion, as there is also the possibility of a spiritual path, one who walks the middle path, aware that there is a mind and whose chatter can lead us to do things seemingly unconsciously, making choices for us all the while missing the magic of the moment. This isn’t some hippie jippie, yes I made that word up, this is the truth that life is beyond the package, magic exists, omnipresent, whether we choose to see it or not. The thing is, it cannot be explained in words, period. Yes there is power of thought, it is an integral part of being human, so is the magic, and has been part of us tens of thousands of years that we know about, probably more, what’s a number, it’s ancient, we can try to think our way out of things, isn’t it funny when things do work out, we are elated and forget that we were in an unbearable moment thinking the worst, this is unexplainable, neuropsychology, neuroscience, …, all try to explain through experiments, statistics, pictures and graphs, that persuade us the viewer to believe whatever they want us to believe, yes that’s it….wait, why? Life is hard! Yes it is if you follow the conditioned thought patterns, when you open up to other possibilities, the universe opens up, doesn’t mean it does it for you, you have have to put in the work, so it goes. Have a great day🌞

be like watercolour

Mindfullness does not attach to a thought, when in full sail one does not drop anchor.

It has been sometime when I just painted for the sake of painting, no reason, no excuses, just plain and simple exercsing my right to expression and tapping into the unlimited fuel called imagination.

I started a new watercolour, back to the basics, here a portrait of a beautiful french actress, I love french actresses, don’t know why, I just do.

bee friendly

my office today, it was a wonderfully pleasant day.

dandelions equals happy bees

when you open your eyes the world opens its eyes, sometimes in multiples like my hidden friend the sipder.

My heart and thoughts are with Japan at th moment may Earth settle peacefully and those families and people in crisis get the help they need.

And lastly a new dress design featuring a detail from a hälts Buddha painting, Click here to order this dress from my online store, remember to use the ‘Mahaloness’ code

Are you still a Believer?

I try to steer clear of politics with respect to my art. Back in 2009 when I created the ‘Are you a Believer?’ series, I was responding to a wave of hope that people projected just before Obama’s election. Once Obama was in office and the wave of hope had hit the shores and dissipated, the dialogue turned from hopeful to critical. Throughout his term I have been painting his portrait with a few simple rules such as using the same profile and size of canvas. Despite this it is intersting to see how his image has changed, in fact currently I am working on the fifth painting and I would say it has been the most difficult to to make yet. Interesting times are upon us, and as we progress I really do wonder how we will respond to the challenges in the coming years.

Scotty’s portrait

I first met Scotty in a small coffee shop in my hometown. We were instant friends, kin folk you could say, a brother from another mother. Scotty is not shy when it comes to words of encouragement and he has exhibited a genuine interest in my artistic explorations and life path since knowing him, which is cool because he was there when I began this trip, which is in part why I decided to paint his portrait. Portraits are an intimate experience for an artist, you get to know a person on a much deeper level than you would normally, and Scotty’s is no exception. His friendship and all his encouragement will not be forgotten. I love this man dearly.
