nothing more nothing less

What is the solution? Do we just conform? Do we just obey and comply?  What is going to bring us to a balance? Is there enough time to turn things around? Do things need to be turned around? Are we so far gone that we have just given up? Are we so corrupted that we just can’t even begin  to come clean? Are we so blind that we cannot even see? Is it an illusion? Does it matter? Do I stay? Do I go? Do I be present? Do I watch and do nothing? Do I listen? Am I here? Is this happening? What can I do? Should I just be? Why are we not listening? Why do we argue? Why do we fight? Why do we kill? Is alcohol the answer? Is gambling making a difference? Is anything worth fighting for, winning? I try to understand, I try to be patient, I try to be quiet, so I can listen. What do I hear? What do I see? I can’t make any sense of it. I don’t see the point. I only see that it’s tearing us apart. Are we are all in the same boat, hurtling through an infinite space of misery? Wait. I must listen to my heart, what remains of it, under the scars.

tonight’s paint sesshin ‘painting for wounded earth’ a watercolour that depicts Windermere BC, looking out to the eagle’s nest.

another metaphor

when I go to the desert this will be my way.

A portrait I have wanted to paint over but can’t find it in my heart to do so…Appreciation moment

My mom painted these sometime in the 70’s, she showed me them just recently, made my day, art has that power to do that when it’s made with meaningfulness, even if you may not know it at the time you paint it, if that makes sense.

A Note: No I do not use grammar apps, they suck, they suck the life right out of writing, and make us as uniform as wonder bread, which is not my cup of tea.

THEY DO LIVE!

Time

There is but a bitter sweet taste

that lingers on

cycling trivialities

to distract what’s real

corrupt love and friendship

leaving a path of senseless destruction

to the one who I loved

but could not love

I forgive you

and so

Off I go

down these city sidewalks

whose sparkle has been lost

some time ago.

the sun and the city dream

It’s a lonely journey towards the sun

with all my love I carry on

farther I travel into this desert of space

this anger, the sorrow

I put aside

burdens lift

drifting effortlessly

the mind settles

a still pond

I often walk alone on this journey, spending hours alone, working away in my tiny studio, immersed in my craft, my art, steadfast in flow. Here I paint my pictures, no other soul in sight, and quite often late into the night.

This is a painting I am currently working on lit from behind. There is a portrait underneath that was something I lost enthusiasm for, and for various the other reasons that shall remain a mystery. It’s interesting backlit, ghostly you could say.

I have been a tourist in my own city, roaming around documenting the growth, the movement, and the flux. I find the city to be a lonesome place, all these structures, many only partly occupied, people in transit moving from one tower to th next,  this is an ongoing series I call, citylife.

Inside the studio

A space always in flux, where happiness, sorrow, and all that falls in between, flows into an ocean of creativity, no other place I’d rather be.

We only get this one.

The following three images demonstrate how I use my drawing and paper cut outs to get composition, I do use modern technology as well but this method is tried, true and tested.

just the ever so slightest adjustment to the garment

At this stage I am respecting my first marks made, before I continue on with the work. This is the stage where my brain switches to 3-D as I bring the subject to life. I will trust my drawings but also let the paint show me what’s possible.

Sometimes things go bassackwards, that’s alright, I appreciate you to the utmost degree.

multi tool

Lately most of my time has been allocated to drawing, painting and baking! whilst also working in the film industry from time to time. Drawing is a daily practice, this has been the case for as long as I can remember. These are spontaneous drawings mainly as an exercise to free up creative blocks and for conceptualizing ideas. I have also been exploring the watercolour medium here and there and I guess you could say appreciating the change in process. Some of the techniques I employ in my acrylic painting do so happen to cross over nicely, such as layering and the use of drawing as a foundation. However I do find watercolour to be more of a one shot deal, or at least I use less paint and subsequently less layers of paint. What I have noticed with watercolour is the crystal like shimmer of some of the pigments and the unpredictability has made for some interesting surprises. With more experience I am developing my own painting techniques as I get accustom to the way watercolour goes down on the paper, and the look of the pigment on paper is giving me ideas. Recently I’ve been thinking about going back to my abstract roots. However as we all know plans change as life changes, so time will will tell.

A poem from the poem zone

I wrote this the other day in bc, I was thinking about the darkness of the times, and conversations I have had with friends and family as well as reflecting on recent events. Regardless of what my position is in terms of politics, social issues and so on, it is evident that beneath the veneer people are going through some hard times. I do hope that this poem reaches out and makes a tiny little difference in your world.
There’s only one of you

Take care of yourself

Stop punishing

Stop blaming

Feeling sorry

Stop loathing

Wake up

Tomorrow

And tell yourself

I love you

Don’t waste time

It’s not too late

Be courageous

Give a shit

Love

Forgive

And the let the sun shine in

‘Purple Rain’ Prince tribute painting by hälts

hälts recently took part in an artshow with the talented Kim Parrent (monochromatic oil painting marvelousness) and Ian Groll Polaroid magica

some wonderful reminders of a rather rich cinematic Past by Kim Parrent on Instagram as alligetisstatic

while out walking I ran into this useful youthful reminder, ‘let the imagination run wild. ‘
