thank you ❤️

It was a very peaceful end to a rather strange December. There were a few things went south for me which as it turns out was a blessing in disguise. Everything happens for a reason, and even if that’s not entirely true, that’s what I am going with at the moment. I had plans to do a year end best, however I think I am just going to regroup for the New Year and count my blessings. I rcently hit a wall and was for once without words, the dreaded writers block. Not one to back down I plan to work through it. That said my best ever blog was titled wordless, just pictures, I think I might experiment with that bit in the coming year. I am a visual person throug hand through however I do think writing is a great tool and when the strokes of genius come I will resume this blog, steadfast as it comes.  As it stands I am grateful for my family and the few true friends that I have in my life. I am grateful for my health and for the freedom to make art. I am optimistic for the year to come and look forward to more art and writing. I also truly appreciate those who follow my humble page and for the love and support, it does make a difference. I wish everyone a wonderful year ahead, I think we all deserve a good year!

For now here’s a new minimoiton I made with an original soundscape made form samples I recorded playing on my moms piano.

the everything

It is true that nothing stays the same. Everything that we know is always in flux, always in motion. The oceans tides moving in and out, the moons path across the sky, and the sun’s rise at dawn. When I experience the glow at dawn secretly I never want it to end,  and yet it does every time. Or how about those periwinkle coated clouds at sunset, you know the ones. It all seems infinite. It all seems so perfect. I cherish the connection I have to the natural world, it is a such a gift we share with so many things, it really is everything.

I looked into the sun as child, and a I learned to respect the sun.

…and now a new minimotion for your viewing pleasure.

‘stare into the flame (day 15)’ 🌖 new hälts minimoiton with soundscape ‘night void’ featuring a meditative timelapse of my newest painting WIP, along with some footage gathered along the quest.

Today’s letter of the day is E for everything and effort, because it takes effort to get something done right.

Future

I am currently working on a new project for the spring, a mural in my neighbourhood, a redo if you will as the first mural was destroyed. Out of destruction something new will come to life, I am both excited and honoured to make a new mural the community can appreciate and visitors alike. I will do some future posts on that, you’ll just have to imagine it for now.

studying the material is a key step in any mural project if you want it to last.

The sun went down and I couldn’t find another one…for a while. -Kurt Vile

in the studio

This is a new painting I have been working on. I stretched the canvas, primed it and now painting the painting, all of which is very satisfying and keeps me sane in this bassackwards world. It’s far from done, however the elements are starting to come together. Painting is constantly teaching me patience, and for the most part it has been an enjoyable experience.

except for he spilt paint, it happens…

paving the studio floor in gold and the sweatpants apparently…

winter solstice

Happy Winter Solstice, here is to the Sun and longer days, looking forward to the sun baths in the studio as I journey onwards with my current body of work. It was an interesting year, as it winds down I reflect on a great year of art and travel, time spent with family, and new friends made. Gone is the old as I empty the backpack and lighten the load, and prepare myself for what the new year has in store. This year I learned to not fight destiny and to persevere in grace, and to ride the waves and be ready for a few sets on the head, yew!

reflection

Been in a little window of reflection, looking inwards, to find some peace of mind and let this beautiful land sink deep into the psyche. Life’s been busy, so I will take this time to appreciate the fact I am here to appreciate it. I also wanted to say thank you to all the folks who have supported my art over the years, it’s been a journey. Here’s to brighter days.

📽 new minimotion ‘SLO mo’ with soundscape ‘you’re awesome’ featuring footage from a recent paint sesh, a little window into my world, I always feel like time dissolves when I am in the creative zone, the helmet at the beginning is a project I just completed, a skeleton helmet airbrush art for an Olympic hopeful, more on that soon.

Flashback 2014 and a good friend, Gord, dropped off his old rig helmet and asked me to give it a punk rock dog, in memory of his buddhy ‘snorkel’ who he brought up to Canada from Belize, I had a lot of fun with it, including incorporating the helmet shapes into the the art, this was my first helmet project and would not be the last……
