Canada Day

I set up a pop up hälts ART gallery yesterday for the  Canada Day celebation. On the day my helper, and up coming artist Raya, helped to curate the display and I  set up a mini studio to do some live art. One of the things I like to do when making live art is to enagage with the public, including the younger folk and offer them the chance to make a mark. The result is pure magic, and this day was no exception.

I am always amazed by impromptu  collaborations, big MAHALO to everyone who contributed to the live art, Mahaloness all the way.

My bus art hapoened to be in the hood, a beacon of hope.

Even a mark on a pallette can be a thing of beauty, abstract art at its finest.

Thank you to everyone for coming out and for participating, what a great way to celebrate Canada! Eh.

Special thanks to Rebecca, Raya, Robert Hilton, Andrej and all the volunteers, good show.

what it is

Art exploration involves getting past the blocks of the mind and surrendering to the act. The time it takes to learn will exponentially increase the more one desires to master the art.

hälts art timelapse video presentation of a painting called ‘fluir energia’, engage here.

The video link above is a fotomontage or sequence of stills edited together with music. The video features the evolution of one my paintings, seen below in a couple different stages of development. The first foto was taken following a live art sesshin at a Random Rab show back in 2011. The second foto captures ‘Fluir Energia’ (‘fluid energy’) nearing completion( Dec. 2014) . Three years in the making, many layers, an act of patience and perseverance.

the Tara painting

Recently I began to paint my third Tibetan inspired Tara painitng. I was properly introduced to Tibetan art when I was on the the Big Island of Hawaii at an event called Alchemeyez, back in 2011. There I would meet a man by the name of Romio Shrestha. Romio had huge, beautiful Thangkas on display, and It is truly beyond words how extraordinary his work is. I remember a moment when I was looking at one of his paintings and completely forgot my self. I also recall the most wonderful peaceful feeling overtaking everything. Since than I have made it my commitment to learn more about Tibetan Art and with a little luck meet again with Romio in this lifetime with the intention to work with him. Although I try to stay true to the traditional artform, this would be considered a modern evolution in my own unique stlye. It is a both an homage and a testament to the Tibetan Tara, and to Romio’s work which continues to spread Dharma into this world.

this was once this

How many layers go into a painting?
Well thats really difficult to say, lots!

fotoMahaloness -from this to this. Follow the link to see what lies beneath the layers of the painting below, titled simply as ‘Mahaloness’, although originally it was called ‘Phantasm’. I have been working on this one for 2 years, if time is your thing. What began as a live art painting has now morphed into what you see below. Since it’s inception it has been in 3 live art performances, it has been hung in art 3 shows, it has been through a flood, just to name a few. Is it done? When is a painting done? Well thats also difficult to say, it really depends on how far you want to go with it, if it feels right, than go with it, never hesitate.

en plein air

I love to make art in open air studios, it is a completely different way to paint. I am always searching for new and interesting places to explore my creativity. It is a great way to connect with my surroundings, each environment has it’s own set of challenges and magic. It is a painter’s pilgrimage that I am on, driven by curiosity and wonder, I will one day compile all if this into one nice book, I better get started there is a lot of material to go through!
fotoMahaloness -plein air sesshins from Alberta to Maui, there is no place I will not take my paints and brushes, the rest always seems to fall into the place.
