What is the solution? Do we just conform? Do we just obey and comply? What is going to bring us to a balance? Is there enough time to turn things around? Do things need to be turned around? Are we so far gone that we have just given up? Are we so corrupted that we just can’t even begin to come clean? Are we so blind that we cannot even see? Is it an illusion? Does it matter? Do I stay? Do I go? Do I be present? Do I watch and do nothing? Do I listen? Am I here? Is this happening? What can I do? Should I just be? Why are we not listening? Why do we argue? Why do we fight? Why do we kill? Is alcohol the answer? Is gambling making a difference? Is anything worth fighting for, winning? I try to understand, I try to be patient, I try to be quiet, so I can listen. What do I hear? What do I see? I can’t make any sense of it. I don’t see the point. I only see that it’s tearing us apart. Are we are all in the same boat, hurtling through an infinite space of misery? Wait. I must listen to my heart, what remains of it, under the scars.
A portrait I have wanted to paint over but can’t find it in my heart to do so…Appreciation moment
My mom painted these sometime in the 70’s, she showed me them just recently, made my day, art has that power to do that when it’s made with meaningfulness, even if you may not know it at the time you paint it, if that makes sense.
I recently took part in a group show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The show was under the title ‘Humans and Art’. It featured around 180 artworks and really could easily be called a true Alberta biennale as it showcased some truly remarkable Alberta talent in visual art, performance art, sculpture and music. In Calgary it’s easy to become sceptical of the local art scene. For one it is run by some of the old guard and with all due respect, these people should of attended this show if they truly care about emerging artists in this city. Being a bit of an underground movement this will take a little time to catch on no doubt. In my humble opinion it’s better to meet a living artist and celebrate their work with the artist present, than it is to revere and celebrate dead artists. Don’t wait until we’re dead to support us, this stigma is so damn cliche and frustrating to the hard working artists who are trying to make a go of it and legitimize themselves as part of the arts and culture of Calgary. We deserve to be part of the dialogue, we have plenty to say and this wave is growing, which most likely makes the old guard shake in their skin. For me it was a real honour to contribute to this show. It is a movement with a tonne of potential and if I were you I’d pay it some appreciation otherwise similar to movements before in this city, it will go where it is appreciated and we will lose yet another truly talented and awesome group of individuals who truly benefit the soul of the ‘small town’ that is the City of Calgary. These are just some of my thoughts, whether you agree or disagree it doesn’t matter, the point is you can’t put a price on an energy that is this positive, so make an effort to come enjoy and support the next shows, you will leave with a heart full of love and be so damn inspired, you will most likely pick up a paint brush yourself and ride the wave.

Getting up at 4:30 am seems ridiculous, when it’s for art it’s alright with me.
The setup is a lot of work, editing 180 art works is no easy task however with a bunch of hyper talented artists working in unity you get is me pretty sweet results.
KillMidi from Lethbridge AB was one of many folk on the wheels of steel and made the room vibrate with some sweet sounds.
The future looks bright.
The spirit of the universe honours action.
It’s been full on in the studio, lots to do as I prepare for a busy 2018 including a trip to the south of France for a month of art exploration, yew!

The journey continues, hälts has been spending a healthy amount of time in the forest realm, visiting lakes and rivers, and looking up to the sky. These experiences bring hälts much joy and the connection to the land, sky and water energizes, bringing a sense of alertness and awareness, which can get comfortable when in the city for long periods of time. In the city realm hälts been working diligently on a live painting project called ‘the healer’ at Calgary New Age Books and Crystals. Each brush stroke is in tune with his natural experiences and mirrors the last part of the painting pilgimage. As ‘the healer’ reaches the completion of its cycle, hälts is drawn into contemplation, remembering all the beautiful people he met along the way, new and old, young and ancient, a blessed experience. At the moment(s) hälts is hosting a print sale at Calgary New Age store, the display features a vast array of artworks, both originals and hybrid art, combining painting and the digital realms. His art is more than just a picture, it is a transmission of story, information, revelations, contemplations, wonder and observations. Come on down and say hello, hälts will be selling his prints, and artworks, and plans on continuing a live painting through to December. Calgary New Age Books and Crystals is located at 104 10 St NW Calgary, hälts is there 12-5 daily, or find him on Instagram for updates, more art, and Mahaloness all the way brah.

I acknowledge the ancient ancestors
whose light lit my mortal torch
who made the path I walk
my marks are also their marks
my vision a continuation of their vision
and so I journey on
this torch illuminates the way
thank you dear ancestors
for you helped to make this life
and for this I will carry forward
long into the night.

Mahalo! Merci! Thank you! Gracias!
Began a new project just recently, a mural installation called “Creator’ based on a vision that sparked my imagination. The process is a lot of work, a lot of hustle and bustle, late nights, mixing paints, drawing, cleaning, running, music, drink water, look, step back, never look back, eat, drink, spray, brush, clean, sleep when the legs turn to jello…just one more session, okay and maybe another. This is the thing that makes me happy, I put a lot of care an attention into my murals, some take 3 months to do, some a day or two, it just all depends on mood, constitution, atmosphere, nerve, intuition, flow, and juice. When these elements are aligned it is magic in its purest form, and so far this project is all of the above. It is dedicated to a friend named Scotty who moved onto the next life and whose words of encouragement helped me to carry on, Eddie and Clyde Aikau (so inspiring), all other surfers and ocean lovers, and to people of Earth, as we all are here because Creator, who ever that is to you, made this existence and this planet, and the Cosmos and what a tremendous gift it is to be able to be a part of it all. Many thanks to New Age Calgary, Rebecca, Nicole, my family, Yvan, John, Guy, Mark, Leigh (who lent a projector, very cool and fun), Sunnyside Art Supply, the Roasterie, Sunnyside Market and all the folks who have contributed in one way or another, couldn’t do it without your help, love, food, coffee, smile, hug, laugh, thumbs up, and positivity. More coming soon my friends, if there is any questions or comments please let me know and I will do my best to get back to you. Until than I have a few more sessions on this beauty, and I am excited to say that I am making a movie which I will hopefully be completed sometime in March, I will post more on that soon. I leave you with some pictures and a few more words.
Keep working on your dream, if you have been thinking about it for sometime it is never too late, it is there waiting for you to begin at any moment. You will not be sorry you did.
“The spirit is like the wind you can’t fully grasp it.” -Pancho Nobert
The artist path is one of patience, perseverence, and constant practice. Throughout the journey there will be experienes, countless experiments, endless information and encounters that adjust your perception of the world. This will inevitably end up in your work, which depending in the person comes with a certain lag time between effect and response. This of course may be slightly altered from one to person to the next, there are many factors such as environment, social economic and political climate, passion, endurance, resolve and so on. For this artist the journey and the destination are one and same, they are always changing and impermanent, this can be both a blessing and a challenge, knowing this there is nothing to hold onto, no ‘mistakes’…the trick is to remember this when things go sideways.
Life recently has been a whirlwind place. The ebbs and flows spinning and pushing me along, seeking level passgae when I can, readying myself for whats to come. I woke up the other day, another cycle completed around the sun, I felt my heart sink a little bit as I contemplated how fast life passes by. People coming and going, life experiences, how I got here, all the hard work I have done and the moments I wanted to give up, all of it, it was weighing on my mind heavily until that is I opened up my mailbox. Low and behold there it was, a remarkable cosmic journal of epic proportions, reminding me to keep working hard, love what you do, and your dreams will be your reality, for anything is possible when you put all of your mind, heart and body into whatever it is you want to do. There will be moments when you are tired, or you’re too busy to do the things you love… this is a good time to keep working hard, stoke the fire and connect with your heart, and do it anyway, at least thats been my experience.
