Canada Day

I set up a pop up hälts ART gallery yesterday for the  Canada Day celebation. On the day my helper, and up coming artist Raya, helped to curate the display and I  set up a mini studio to do some live art. One of the things I like to do when making live art is to enagage with the public, including the younger folk and offer them the chance to make a mark. The result is pure magic, and this day was no exception.

I am always amazed by impromptu  collaborations, big MAHALO to everyone who contributed to the live art, Mahaloness all the way.

My bus art hapoened to be in the hood, a beacon of hope.

Even a mark on a pallette can be a thing of beauty, abstract art at its finest.

Thank you to everyone for coming out and for participating, what a great way to celebrate Canada! Eh.

Special thanks to Rebecca, Raya, Robert Hilton, Andrej and all the volunteers, good show.

murals of Mahaloness

Mural making is a different beast, it takes a lot of will and determination to complete them. Without a doubt the effort pays off when you see someones face light up when the mural catches their eye.

what it is

Art exploration involves getting past the blocks of the mind and surrendering to the act. The time it takes to learn will exponentially increase the more one desires to master the art.

-the building in Linden where I spent three months more or less working on a dream project, and experiment, make something out of nothing, or so I thought, who knew it would turn into the beast it did, that demanded so much for so long, working long hard periods of time in solitary work flow, experiencing monumental breakthroughs in painting, in process and self, often my only the witness the mice or shop cat, moments that were everything, the stories endless.

IMG_6248.PNG-the cold winds of old man winter regularly screamed outside and no real heat source inside was a bit of trip so a friend offered his van to stay warm, cook food and sleep, a little camp set up inside a buidling, perhaps the farthest thing from nature, it did make working conditions better.

IMG_6247.PNG-another time I will share events that occurred on this project, these were not the run of the mill experiences, this project changed me, it has taken a few years to see it and accept it, which may sound strange and hopefully I can better explain myself when the time is right, for now I wish to share with you these images, some new ones I found buried in the arhives, sorry no time-lapse of this one, the size of the painting bay where I worked in (behind the van in the fotos above) was too small to step back and see the whole bus, one of many challenges I experienced working on this project.

-the creative mind is a fascinating thing indeed, here I have attempted to illustrate an dream idea into reality, in the form of a magical mural that just so happens to be on a bus. (more on this story in the next coming months)

redeemed

my purpose is to make beautiful art

To say I put my all into this magic bus would be an understatement. The way I painted the bus remains a mystery to most as most do not even know who I am nor do they know that I painted it, in yet I did. I painted the bus as beautiful as was possible for one man, and like all of my art it is meant to be contemplated and not possessed. This lucky bus has been redeemed.

This is where I will sit and write my book about my experience painting a magic bus called ‘Big Ha’.

new videoMahaloness…

‘Painting a Tara’ pt. 2 c.2014

This is the second of an ongoing series of videos featuring me in process, in my studio, working on a Tibetan inspired White Tara painting (and a wearable art women’s flannel ‘wolfmoon’ and the ‘Mahaloness’ painting. I have been fortunate to meet a true master Tibetan/Nepalese Thangka painter, Romio Shrestha (www.romioshrestha.com) who has been a guiding light force as I walk the artist’s path. The track was made by me on my dented iPad, using some wild sounds, Garage band and a a few piano riffs I recorded while playing my moms electric piano, never a dull moment.

Thank you for watching.
